Download and Install ]project-open[
V3.3/V3.4
]project-open[
Versions
- V3.3 is our "stable version". We recommend this version
for all companies that want to install and use ]po[ without hassle.
We commit to maintain V3.3 for at least a year after release and to
provide easy upgrades to later versions.
- V3.4 is our "development version". This version contains
all major new features such as a new GUI. This version is already stable
and used in production. However, there may still be quirks in the installation
procedure, so you will likely need professional
services from the ]po[ team in order to get this version working.
Installation Overview
]project-open[
is relatively complex to install, because of its size and because of its
integration with many other software packages. Therefore we recommend to
evaluate/download ]project-open[
step by step starting with the easiest options first.
Demo Server
You can use our demo servers in order to get an idea about the functionality
of the application.
- http://pcdemo.dnsalias.com/ ("stable" version 3.3)
- http://po34demo.dnsalias.com/ ("unstable" version 3.4)
The disadvantage of the demo servers is that you can not login as an Administrator.
As an alternative please consider our SaaS
(Software as a Service) offering.
VMware
Installer
A VMware virtual machine image is our preferred installation method and
suitable for types of users. The image works for Windows, Linux and Apple
user and includes a pre-configured]project-open[
server on a CentOS base system. Once downloaded, the installation itself
takes less then 5 minutes.
The performance of a VMware installation is suitable for companies with
up to 10 "active" users (regularly using the system).
Please proceed as follows.
- Download
"project-open-VMware-3.3.2-1.zip" from SourceForge.
The 1.4 GB file contains a zipped VMware virtual machine.
- Please download and install either "VMware Server 1.x " or
"VMware Player" from VMware.
Both applications are free.
- Follow the instructions from the README.
See an overview of all steps involved here.
- Login to the VMware as user "root" with password "root".
That's all for the installation. Please see our user manuals
for details. For questions, suggestions, etc. please visit our Open
Discussions forum at SourceForge
(after you have read the manuals, please!).
Please contact
us if you are going to use ]project-open[
in production. Most customers will need at least a few hours of consulting
services in order to go-live with the application. We can provide larger
organizations with help for project definition, scoping and execution.
"Native" Installations
Unfortunately, it is not easy to install ]project-open[
"from scratch" on most Linux/Unix systems. This is because ]project-open[
depends on a number of external applications and their version numbers.
Please find below information on how to install ]project-open[
on selected systems. Please contact
us for help with your installation.
- Windows:
We are currently working on a native Windows installer. Until then, using
the VMware installer above, is the fastest way to get ]po[
up and running on a Windows box. However, some users reported successful
installations of ]project-open[
on top of Maurizio
Martignano's Win32-OpenACS System.
- Novell/SuSE:
An Open SuSE 10.2 RPM installer is available at our SourceForge
download zone. Please note that the installer does not work with
SuSE 10.0. or higher
- RedHat:
There are RPM installers available for RHEL 4 and Fedora Core 6 at our
SourceForge
download zone.
- Gentoo:
There is an excellent ]project-open[
Installation how-to for Gentoo Linux.
- Debian:
Iván Belmonte created a native Debian installer: http://ivanhq.net/project-open-on-debian-etch/
- Ubuntu
Based on Iváns work Venkat Mangudi came up with a method
to install ]po[
on Ubuntu.
Rene Pilz also published instructions at the UBUNTU
community site on how to setup ]po[
on Ubuntu 'Hardy'.
