Version 3.0.beta7 Release Notes

You are reading this probably because your ]project-open[ installer has opened this page during the installation process. We use this page to communicate information about the software that you are installing and to debug the installation process. Please see our privacy statement for details.

Overall Status

Your V3.0.beta7 installer installs a system that is suitable for testing the general functionality of ]project-open[ and dotLrn. However, it should not be used in productive environments yet.

Supported Platforms

Supported:

  • Windows 2000 (professional & server)
  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2003 Server

Not supported:

  • Windows ME,
  • Windows 98

]project-open[ does mot work on the non supported platforms because of an issues with the PostgreSQL database.

Also, we have had issues with the installation on Windows XP and Windows 2003 in about 5% of the cases. However, we have not been able to identify the cause of these problems yet. Please contact us if you should encounter any problem.

Installation Instructions

  1. Please connect to the Internet or to a local netowrk:
    You will need to be connected to the Internet or to a local network during the installation process.
    Windows disables its network services completely if there is no network connection.
  2. Please disable the local firewall of your computer:
    Please disable the firewall of your computer (of your antivirus software or Windows XP SP2 Firewall etc.) while installing ]po[.
    We are going to install two components (AOLServer and PostgreSQL database) that need to communicate with each other on port 5432 of your computer.
  3. Please uninstall "CygWin":
    CygWin is a Unix environment for Windows from RedHat. The installer comes with its own version of CygWin which conflicts with an existing installation.
  4. Please use the default values provided by the installer:
    Please use the default values provided by the installer unless you know what you are doing.
  5. Please only install on C:\:
    This is a temporary restriction that will fall in one of the later versions.
